AN ASTEROID the size of seven London buses zoomed past Earth and we only noticed it three days after it went by, stargazers have revealed. The 78-metre-wide space rock is called 2017 OO1 and was discovered on June 23. But new analysis has revealed that it was only spotted after it had sped by our planet. If it had been on a collision course with Earth, we wouldn’t have had a chance in hell of deflecting it. The asteroid was spotted by an observatory in Hawaii after it passed within just 548,000 miles of our planet, EarthSky reports. An asteroid of this size would cause serious damage to anything beneath it. If it was larger, it could possibly wipe out humanity.
