Leaked emails between Johnny Depp and his ex-business managers apparently show the actor being asked to "take it easy" on spending. Joel Mandel and The Management Group are currently fighting to subpoena Depp's attorney Jake Bloom and his ex-agent Tracey Jacobs as part of the ongoing battle as to whether he knew about the state of his finances. They claim the emails, which they have made public, prove their case. Depp sued Mandel and TMG in January over claims of fraud and negligence. TMG then countersued, claiming he was well aware of his situation, as were Jacobs, Bloom, and Depp's sister Christi Dembrowski, and that they had pleaded with him to curtail his spending as far back as 2009. The actor was said to have spent inordinate amounts of money on private jets, art, and fine wine. There were also some more unusual items listed, including $4 million on a failed record label, $3 million to fire Hunter S Thompson's ashes out of a cannon, and … [Read more...] about Leaked Johnny Depp emails show actor offering to sell art, books and ‘some semblance of a soul’

Whenever I get too fretful about what is going on in that there America lately, I tend to comfort myself by watching reruns of the West Wing. Trouble is, I’ve been doing this so much, I have started getting terribly tangled up in trying to distinguish fact from fiction. In effect, I am supplying myself with fake news and cutting out the middle man. This was highlighted when The Teenager tweeted Toby (played by Richard Schiff) from the West Wing after we had watched a particularly moving episode — and he tweeted back. This left my poor addled brain reeling. Is he real? In which case, is President Jed Bartlet in charge over there? Are we all saved? I did calm down after a wee nap in a darkened room but it made me wonder how many other people are conjuring up an alternative reality for themselves to cope with what is actually happening. Just me then? Fair enough. Of course, some things I assume I’ve made up turn out to be true. Did anyone else see the stories about … [Read more...] about When fake and real news slowly merge into one
Comrades, Hons and rebels to the barricades. Last week’s Brick Lane anti-gentrification protests have so fired up London that even the well-heeled of Chelsea want in on the action. And Lady Mary-Gaye Curzon, mother of Cressida Bonas, has appointed herself general. Their objection? To Kensington and Chelsea council’s plan to bring Crossrail 2 to their beloved King’s Road. Shocking indeed — after all, this isn’t Primark-ridden Oxford Street, darling. For months, locals including director Sir Alan Parker, actress Felicity Kendal, pasta sauce prince Loyd Grossman and Nancy Dell’Olio have been raging against the machine, along with 4,000 locals, that would make the Sloane highway more accessible to the wider public — even, God forbid, the residents of Hackney who would be at the other end of the line. No placards or bandanas for them, of course — Dell’Olio instead made her objections clear by drawing the raffle at an anti-station … [Read more...] about Londoner’s Diary: Chelsea set man the barricades over Crossrail 2

What do Johnny Depp, President Jimmy Carter and Pat Buchanan have in common? They all have big things to say about the late journalist-genius-gun nut Hunter S. Thompson in this new trailer from the documentary Gonzo, that's what. Depp was buddy-buddy with Thompson, and played him to shiny-domed perfection in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, so it's no surprise he's the first face we see here. But what do you think: Can director Alex Gibney (Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room) help the '70s icon make yet another comeback, or is this one Depp flick you'll skip? … [Read more...] about Rate-a-Trailer: Depp, Loathing & Gonzo

Johnny Depp has the perfect plan for keeping potential suitors away from his 12-year-old daughter Lily Rose—just threaten injury. The wacky actor, currently doing the press rounds for his new movie The Rum Diary, talked family and his daughter growing up fast to E! News, spilling his plan about what he's going to do when a guy comes to the door. What did he say? MORE: What's Depp got to do with Dr. Seuss? "I'll probably be standing there with a tire iron," he said with a smile. "Yeah, probably there'll be a bottle of rum in my left hand and a tire iron in the right hand." Depp, who has Bieber fever, also talked tattoos, saying his markings remind him of different times in his life ("Winona" turned "Wino Forever," anyone?) and said he also keeps journals. "I do keep a diary and I do write constantly," he revealed. MORE: Johnny's Lone Ranger rides again! The Rum Diary is based on a Hunter S. GK Films Answer: This weekend. Johnny Depp took backseat at the box office to a kid, a cat and Justin Timberlake. At least he fared better than his old Sleepy Hollow costar. WATCH: Newcomer Anton Yelchin sits down with Ben Lyons Depp's The Rum Diary bowed in fifth place in the weekend standings, and averaged just $2,205 at each of its theaters, Sunday estimates showed. While the boozy R-rated travelogue predictably was outdone by the other two new wide releases, Puss in Boots and Timberlake's In Time, the Hunter S. Thompson tale surprisingly earned few fans from the art-house crowd, whose members overwhelmingly voted Anton Yelchin their leading man. The 22-year-young Yelchin's visa love story Like Crazy grossed $30,000 at each of its four theaters, by far the weekend's most impressive per-screen average. For Depp, The Rum Diary is his weakest-debuting film since 2005's The Libertine, and was less potent than his last Thompson-spawned film, 1998's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The … [Read more...] about Question: When Isn’t Johnny Depp a Leading Man?
GK Films Review in a Hurry: Johnny Depp's most popular role was as a rum-guzzling pirate, but despite the ample presence of the Caribbean spirits—and ads promoting a broader comedy—this isn't Captain Jack Redux. Rather, it's a sort of unofficial prequel to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, more likely to appeal to college students drunkenly completing their writing assignments than lusty ladies with a navy jones. MORE: New Hunger Games posters! Who looks best? The Bigger Picture: Depp's been trying to get this movie off the ground for quite a while, having had a hand in assembling the novel to begin with. He's not quite in his early twenties, as Hunter S. Thompson was when he wrote the book based on his own experiences in Puerto Rico during the Eisenhower administration. But having played another older and balder Thompson alter ego before in Fear and Loathing, and having worked hard on his abs, he pulls off "younger" in a more general way. Director Bruce Robinson isn't as … [Read more...] about Movie Review: The Rum Diary—the Johnny Depp Movie That Isn’t for Everyone

Johnny Depp has once again immersed himself in the bizarro world of Hunter S. Thompson. In The Rum Diary, the Oscar nominee plays journalist Paul Kemp, a New Yorker who heads down to Puerto Rico to work for a San Juan newspaper and ends up on a series of trippy adventures thanks to a blond vixen (Amber Heard), her shady boyfriend (Aaron Eckhart) and, go figure, some abnormally high-proof rum. And, he finds a story, much to the concern of his editor, played by Richard Jenkins. MORE: Johnny Depp's Lone Ranger on hold indefinitely Maybe if everyone he met weren't so bent on self-destruction, Kemp would have more of a chance at the peaceful existence he seeks, but... Where's the fun in that? The Rum Diary was a passion project for Depp, who angled to get the film made for years and is credited as a producer. A good friend of Thompson's, who died in 2005, Depp played another harshly-ripped-from-reality character in the screen version of the late gonzo journalist's drug-fueled roman … [Read more...] about Johnny Depp Keeps Track of Sex, Booze and Crime in The Rum Diary Trailer
BAUER-GRIFFIN.COM What's happened to Johnny Depp? There is any possibility of madness and absurdity that could commence. You feel with this character you are never really done." Johnny Depp has always had an eccentric sense of style, so when he was first seen wearing a "chick's ring" on his engagement finger, it didn't seem all that unusual. As it turns out, the Transcendence star has been rocking the rock he gave his fiancée Amber Heard when he popped the question in late 2013. "I have a female engagement ring," the 50-year-old actor admitted on Thursday's Late Show. "It's not typical for a man to wear an engagement ring, is it?" host David Letterman asked. "No," Depp admitted. "It was too big for my girl." Depp joked that "it's a big fallacy" that people know each other's ring size without asking, which is why he's now wearing the sparkler. Why didn't he return it instead? "I put it on," he said. "She has the other one that fits." Not many people have questioned his new bling, either. "I think people are scared to comment. 'Why? Why is a grown man wearing a woman's engagement ring?' Because it fit." Luckily, the movie star has gotten approval from … [Read more...] about Johnny Depp Explains Why He’s Wearing the Female Engagement Ring He Gave Amber Heard

YUYA SHINO/Reuters/Landov Johnny Depp and Amber Heard are even more married now. The newlyweds, who made it official in a super-private ceremony at Depp's house on Tuesday, tied the knot in a more lavish, yet still intimate ceremony Sunday on the actor's private Caribbean island, Little Hall's Pond Cay. The nuptials were held on one of the 45-acre island's six beaches (presumably not Paradis, the one named after the groom's ex), where a marquee was being set up, along with only 24 chairs. The ceremony lasted for about a half an hour and Depp's son, Jack, appeared to be serving as his dad's best man. Daughter Lily Rose was also in attendance. Heard wore a white, vintage-style lace dress that looked to have long sleeves and a deep V-neck, while her bridesmaids wore blush-colored gowns and white stilettos, which they kicked off to walk in the sand. The aisle was scattered with pink rose petals and four cushioned arm chairs were set up on the ocean's edge underneath a canopy decorated … [Read more...] about Johnny Depp and Amber Heard Marry (Again!) in Intimate Ceremony on Actor’s Private Island: All the Details!
Johnny Depp and fiancée Amber Heard were all over each other at the Art of Elysium gala in Los Angeles on Friday night, a month after the two were subject to split rumors. The two packed on the PDA as they arrived at the event, where the actress, who sported a gorgeous white gown with a draped boat neckline, was given the organization's highest honor, the Spirit of Elysium award. They were also spotted in a VIP area inside, where they slow-danced to a remix of "The First Cut Is the Deepest," a Cat Stevens ballad famously covered by Sheryl Crow, created by none other than DJ Elijah Wood. An eyewitness told E! News that Depp, 51, and Heard, 28, looked "very flirty and cute" at the event, adding that "Amber was touching Johnny's leg." In December, less than a year after they got engaged, sources told E! News that the two were having major issues and that their wedding plans were up in the air. The two did not comment about their relationship. Earlier this month, a souce said the two are … [Read more...] about Johnny Depp & Amber Heard Pack on the PDA at Gala After Breakup Rumors—See the Photo!
If you ask Johnny Depp a question, he's going to give you a Johnny Depp answer, even when it comes to matters of the heart. Sitting beside Mortdecai co-star Paul Bettany, the notoriously private 51-year-old actor discussed fiancée Amber Heard, 28, in an interview with E! News. He complimented the actress on a recent appearance and was then asked if they had celebrated a year of being engaged. Depp played coy and turned to his co-star for a response, who appeared bemused but played along. PHOTO: Johnny Depp & Amber Heard pack on the PDA at gala after breakup rumors E!
