The rapper didn't appreciate Funkmaster Flex talking about his dead hero. Rapper T.I. has scolded top DJ Funkmaster Flex for talking ill of the dead after he took to the airwaves to clear up rumours about the studio raid that kicked off the 1990s East Coast-West Coast rap wars. The late Tupac Shakur was shot during the skirmish at New York's Quad studios 23 years ago, prompting the rivalry that eventually cost him and Notorious BIG their lives. Attempting to clear up reports suggesting Tupac was shot during the raid in a new Instagram Live chat, Hot 97's Funkmaster Flex said, "You Pac fans always talking that talk," before insisting the rapper shot himself "in the leg". Flex, real name Aston George Taylor, Jr., added: "The beef was PAC got robbed cause he did the wrong NY cats dirty! He was scared of them so he blamed Biggie... "Classic case of out of town n**ga wanting to be accepted and he got in too deep and couldn't dig his way out. You wanted the truth there it is." The former Xscape singer filed papers to end her six-year marriage to the Whatever You Like hitmaker in December (16) and the case was due to be heard in a Georgia court in March. News, Tiny served T.I., real name Clifford Harris Jr., with divorce papers this week (beg24Apr17) and he responded by filing his acknowledgement of the service on 24 April. Ever since I first interviewed Jay Stansfield, vocalist of ALL HAIL HYENA!, the band has flaunted a strong punk ethos of challenging genre and industry norms and celebrating raw, organic rock. Since then, the trio has flirted with a slickness achieved in production. The band’s EP, S T I C K € R S, cuts a delicious equilibrium of polished melodies punctuated by wild math rock to capture intense feelings like wonder, desire and release: firings of attitude; frenzied guitar licks; and euphoric rhythms breaking into crazed beats. Thematically and musically, this intricate EP questions and breaks truths. We see this lyrically in Sabbathtian, a track about space exploration questioning the thoroughness of the moon landing, and in Debbie Loves Her Neighbours, which depicts, Jay said, “a nasty piece of work” presenting a veneer of niceties. This eclecticism in subject matter and structure has allowed the band to retain its raw punk edge to shred up genre norms. Through … [Read more...] about EP review: S T I C K € R S; ALL HAIL HYENA!
AP Photo/John Bazemore T.I. is hoping MTV will help him make good on his promise to turn his past crimes into something positive...and promotional. According to Variety, the hit-making hip-hopster has signed a pact with the cable network to star in a reality series that follows him as he performs 1,000 hours of community service in advance of a one-year prison term next year resulting from a gun rap. The self-proclaimed King of the South (real name: Clifford Harris) pleaded guilty in March to federal weapons charges for attempting to buy three machine guns and silencers in a shopping center parking lot hours before he was due to perform at the BET Hip-Hop Awards. As part of a plea deal, T.I. was ordered to address youth groups about the dangers of guns and gangs, all of which will be captured by video crews. Depending on how well he fulfills that obligation, the 27-year-old rapper could end up with a reduced sentence. The MTV show will also, natch, help to hype the release of his … [Read more...] about T.I. Keeping It Real
The King of the South is headed home. Hip-hop superstar T.I. was released from a federal prison in Arkansas this morning, after serving seven months of his one-year sentence for a felony weapons conviction. His attorney, Steve Sadow, tells E! News that the MC will report to a halfway house in his native Atlanta this evening for the remainder of his sentence. "[A halfway house] is not unusual in the least, it happens across the board as long as the inmates are eligible," Sadow said, noting that T.I. also got credit for time served in home detention. "They decided that three months in a halfway house would assist him with reentering society." The 29-year-old T.I., real name Clifford Harris Jr., was busted in 2007 for using a bodyguard to attempt to buy unregistered machineguns and silencers from an undercover agent, just hours before he was set to perform at the BET Awards. He continues on to describe how he'd like to make changes in himself and in others, some of which have already been documented on MTV's T.I.'s Road to Redemption. "Before I go to prison, I want to speak to young people about responsibility as a lifestyle," the "Dead and Gone" artist says. "I hope that through my mistakes, young people can begin to learn, as I did, that we have to put our guns down and start to give our guns back. It pains me inside to hear about so many of our people dying because of gun violence." He concludes, … [Read more...] about T.I. Waxes Philosophical About Jail Time, Fires Snitch

Kiefer Sutherland didn't really plan on returning to television this fall. He spent nine seasons on 24 (from 2001-2010, then the limited return in 2014), and just wasn't looking for a series regular gig. But when his friend, producer Mark Gordon, gave him the script to Designated Survivor, he abruptly changed course because of how mind-blowingly good it was. "I had no intention of doing a television show and I was very busy, but I felt I needed to give the script a cursory read so that I could at least respond with some intelligence and explain why I couldn't do it," Sutherland said at the Television Critics Association summer press tour. "And I found myself on page 22 and I remember saying, 'S--t.' I've got to go back and start from the beginning because it was shaping up so beautifully. And I remember getting to the very end of the script and realizing I was potentially holding the next ten years of my life in my hands."
