EVERY year thousands of punters head to Cheltenham Festival for one of the greatest weeks in the racing calendar. They enjoy four days of high quality racing, with prize money only second to the Grand National – and the finest horses in action from Great Britain and Ireland. It features several Grade I races including the Gold Cup, Champion Hurdle, Queen Mother Champion Chase and World Hurdle. Cheltenham is renowned for its atmosphere, with its famous ‘roar’ accompanying the opening race. NEXT years Festival will take place between March 13-16, with four full days racing to enjoy. THE GRAND NATIONAL is horse racing’s best known event and a British sporting tradition. Held annually at Aintree, near Liverpool, the first race was run in 1839 and is contested over 4 miles 514 yards – with horses negotiating 30 fences. It is the race that made a legend out of Red Rum, who triumphed three times during the 1970s. Last years winner was One For Arthur, ridden by Derek Fox and coming in at odds of 14/1. NEXT years meet takes place at Aintree from April 12-14, 2018. Those three days are made up of Grand Opening Day (Thurday), Ladies Day (Friday) and Grand National Day (Saturday).
